Forward Deployed Engineer, Compliance [Office of the CTO]

Responsibilities

• Embed with Compliance leadership and frontline teams to identify high-value automation opportunities across transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory change management, and exam preparation.
• Rapidly prototype solutions using Coinbase’s existing AI platform as the default foundation.
• Own the Compliance automation roadmap with the Chief Compliance Officer and Compliance leadership.
• Translate regulatory workflows—including case resolution, trade surveillance, risk assessment, and policy management—into engineering requirements and communicate engineering constraints to stakeholders.
• Define build-versus-buy strategies for Compliance tooling, including internal builds, partner-team solutions, vendors, and retirements.
• Design automated compliance outputs with traceability, reviewability, auditability, approval gates, evidence retention, and human-in-the-loop controls.
• Drive adoption through brown-bag sessions, prototype walkthroughs, and stakeholder feedback loops.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience shipping production systems in ambiguous, stakeholder-heavy environments; greenfield experience is a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience deploying LLM-based applications, including prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, hallucination guardrails, and human-in-the-loop design for high-stakes outputs.
• Ability to work with non-technical domain experts, internalize complex workflows, and translate them into engineering requirements.
• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory systems concepts, including transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, regulatory filing workflows, case management, and audit-ready data handling.
• Familiarity with multi-agent orchestration, including agent handoffs, escalation, and auditability.
• Experience in forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, or embedded technical advisory roles, ideally in compliance technology, RegTech, or financial services.
• Ability to use generative AI responsibly, maintain human oversight, and deliver business-ready outputs with measurable workflow improvements.

Compensation and Benefits

• Annual base salary: $218,025–$256,500 USD.
• Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility.
