Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana Enterprise

Responsibilities

• Design and lead development of backend services, distributed systems, and enterprise features at scale.
• Drive projects from ideation through development, production, and ongoing operations.
• Contribute to platform scalability, reliability, security, and multi-tenancy.
• Own operational health through weekday and weekend on-call rotations.
• Hire, develop, and mentor engineers.
• Improve engineering and operational practices across the organization.
• Build backend systems powering Grafana Enterprise for large-scale operators.
• Architect and implement distributed backend services in Go, emphasizing correctness, observability, and performance.
• Design APIs and service contracts for enterprise operators and cloud service providers.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, and frontend engineering teams on end-to-end solutions.
• Engage directly with enterprise customers and cloud service providers to understand requirements and translate them into engineering solutions.
• Contribute to open-source communities.

Requirements

• Deep professional experience writing production services through operations at scale.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including replication, consistency models, partitioning, and fault tolerance.
• Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-traffic, high-availability, or multi-tenant systems.
• Professional experience building and consuming gRPC and Protocol Buffers APIs.
• Experience designing clean service contracts across service boundaries.
• Strong database skills, including schema design, query optimization, and schema migrations at scale.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong teamwork and customer focus.
