Head of Accounting Policy

Leads accounting policy and technical accounting for complex technology transactions, establishes public-company-grade reporting practices, and advises senior leaders, auditors, and regulators. Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the company’s US GAAP accounting policy framework.
  • Advise on novel transactions, including usage-based and enterprise revenue arrangements under ASC 606, compute and infrastructure commitments, complex financing and equity instruments, M&A, and investments.
  • Establish rigorous whitepaper and position-memo practices for documenting accounting conclusions.
  • Lead technical discussions with external auditors and the SEC, including complex or unsettled matters.
  • Prepare SEC-style financial statements, disclosures, and supporting close, reporting, and control processes.
  • Monitor and implement new FASB standards and SEC rules.
  • Partner with Legal, Tax, FP&A, business, and deal teams on transaction design and accounting implications.
  • Advise on equity, financing, and capital-markets transactions.
  • Lead and develop the technical accounting and accounting policy team.
  • Support leadership and Audit Committee reporting on significant accounting positions, judgments, and estimates.
  • Strengthen controls over complex-area accounting for a SOX-ready control environment.
  • Represent the company in comment letters and engagements with standard setters and industry groups.

Requirements

  • Active CPA license.
  • Public accounting experience at a top firm through at least Director, Managing Director, or Partner level, or selection as a national office Senior Manager into the SEC Professional Accounting Fellow program.
  • Deep US GAAP expertise and strong knowledge of SEC reporting requirements.
  • Experience leading technical accounting or accounting policy at a high-growth technology company.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, conclude, document, and defend positions on complex and novel accounting issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 15+ years of combined public accounting and industry experience.
  • Experience with the SEC Professional Accounting Fellow program or comparable senior SEC staff roles.
  • FASB, EITF, or other standard-setting experience.
  • Public speaking on technical accounting topics.
  • National office experience at a major accounting firm.
  • Experience preparing a private company for public-company-grade reporting.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $300,000–$385,000 USD.
