Staff Backend Engineer

Responsibilities

• Drive technical initiatives across the company, including system architecture design for agent infrastructure scaling (tradeoffs between speed, reliability, and complexity).
• Own hard technical problems and highest-stakes ambiguous projects.
• Identify system gaps proactively and build cases for addressing them.
• Set standards for code review, system design, and operational excellence.
• Work across team boundaries, mentor engineers through collaboration, and be responsible for outcomes beyond individual output.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend engineering experience with track record of leading complex projects.
• Strong opinions on system design with ability to articulate tradeoffs.
• Ability to turn vague problems into clear technical approaches independently.
• Write excellent code and maintain high standards without bottlenecking.
• Energized by hard problems, comfortable with uncertainty, hands-on coding.
• Experience building scalable systems and understanding scaling challenges.

Tech Stack

Backend: Python (Django/FastAPI), TypeScript (Node.js)
Infrastructure: AWS, Modal, Kubernetes, Postgres
Frontend: TypeScript, Next.js (interaction as needed)
