In-House Journalist
AirGarage's first in-house journalist will build an owned publication, run a quarterly data report program using proprietary parking data and AI automation, conduct interviews with industry leaders, earn media coverage, and create content for founder social channels and SEO. Requires 4+ years journalistic/editorial experience, comfort with data, strong interviewing and writing skills, and commercial mindset.
About the job
What You Will Do
- Own our publication: Build and run a high-production-value owned publication on a monthly or quarterly cadence. Each edition anchors on a standout interview, an original data finding, or a story from inside the industry. Own the reporting, writing, and production.
- Run the data report program: Turn proprietary parking data into a recurring quarterly report that earns coverage and drives leads. Design the program so AI handles heavy lifting on analysis and production; apply editorial judgment on the story and its importance.
- Interview people worth listening to: Identify interesting people in commercial real estate, parking, mobility, and urban policy. Convince them to talk and conduct interviews that produce quotable insights.
- Earn media coverage: Package data findings and stories into pitches that journalists open. Build relationships with reporters covering CRE, proptech, and cities. Create workflows to automate outreach minutiae.
- Run founder and company social: Turn interviews, data findings, and stories into content for CEO's LinkedIn and company channels. Use transcripts and AI tooling to make it sound human.
- Contribute to SEO and GEO content: Write content and design systems to rank in search engines and be cited by LLMs, grounded in original data and reporting (with a technical partner).
Who You Are
- 4-8+ years experience as a journalist, editor, researcher, or equivalent editorial work. Can share published work that proves you find stories others miss.
- Comfortable in a dataset: Can spot anomalies in data and determine if it's a story or error (no analyst-level skills required).
- Strong interviewer: Prepare, listen, ask follow-ups, and elicit interesting responses.
- Write clean, direct prose; shift registers across longform features, data reports, LinkedIn posts, and media pitches.
- Use AI tools daily and build workflows with them; view AI as a tool that augments judgment.
- Commercially minded: Understand content drives brand awareness and demand.
- Scrappy: Build processes from scratch in a startup environment.
Nice to Have
- Coverage or beat experience in commercial real estate, proptech, mobility, cities, or business/finance.
- Experience pitching or working with earned media.
- Experience growing audiences on LinkedIn or other social platforms.
- Familiarity with SEO fundamentals and how AI search engines cite sources.
