Staff Simulation Data Modeler

Own the credibility of a military simulation’s entity catalog by defining data standards, quantitative performance models, AI-assisted production workflows, and continuous validation. The role requires strong analytical judgment, documentation, organization, and the ability to defend modeling decisions to customers and subject-matter experts.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Lead simulation entity catalog strategy across service branches, nations, and eras; track completion, freshness, and confidence.
  • Translate customer and field feedback into prioritized catalog roadmaps.
  • Research sources and codify standards for human and AI-assisted entity creation.
  • Develop or adopt defensible formulas for weapon effects, sensor effects, fuel burn, survivability, and related performance models; partner with Engineering on implementation.
  • Direct AI-agent workflows for research, data entry, documentation, and testing using prompts, review loops, and guardrails.
  • Define workflow tooling requirements and partner with Engineering to build them.
  • Lead verification, validation, and accreditation across catalog segments.
  • Direct automated test-battery development and run competitive wargames to stress-test models and assumptions.
  • Establish documentation standards and author internal and external knowledge articles explaining model logic and sources.
  • Train and mentor analysts on modeling tradecraft, rubrics, and VV&A methods.

Requirements

  • Strong research, analytical, quantitative modeling, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make sound assumptions when source data is incomplete or conflicting.
  • Experience directing AI agents with clear instructions, review checkpoints, and error detection.
  • Ability to reason about and sanity-check formulas for weapon effects, fuel consumption, survivability, and similar models.
  • Ability to manage catalogs spanning hundreds of items and track freshness, status, and priorities.
  • Interest in ensuring simulation accuracy and serving as an escalation point for contested technical decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with game modding tools, editors, or simulation authoring environments.
  • Experience partnering with Engineering on test automation or QA tooling.
  • Familiarity with military doctrine, force structure, or platform performance data.
  • Experience with version control and bug-tracking systems.
  • Experience mentoring, training, or establishing technical standards adopted by other contributors.
