About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead major initiatives and own a large area of Shepherd's product experience in data collection, automated underwriting, and policy administration.
  • Drive technical decisions for your domain.
  • Work across the stack and collaborate with underwriting, design, product management, CTO, underwriters, and actuaries.
  • Balance innovation with pragmatic delivery, contribute to product strategy and architectural decisions.
  • Mentor other engineers and help build company culture.

Requirements

  • Thrive in ambiguity and ship product daily with high quality.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of features and systems.
  • Strong communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • 5+ years experience, preferably full-stack, delivering high-impact products.
  • Experience with insurance (InsurTech or actuarial preferred).
  • Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript (backend/frontend).

Nice-to-Haves

  • Passion for built-world, construction safety, and productivity.
  • Mentoring experience and leading significant projects.
