Senior Backend Engineer, Ecosystems
Build and operate backend services and integrations for Mozilla’s Ecosystem Services teams, owning systems from development through production operations. The role requires 4+ years of backend experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust, plus PostgreSQL, cloud infrastructure, observability, and on-call experience.

Responsibilities
- Lead backend development, building and maintaining server-side logic.
- Own services end to end, including deployment, operations, and production health.
- Maintain and improve production environments with monitoring and alerting.
- Participate in on-call and off-hours support rotations, triaging and resolving production issues.
- Handle releases, dependency updates, and incoming requests from customer support and stakeholders.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully while maintaining sound engineering judgment.
- Partner with frontend, platform, Cloud Engineering, product, UX, and design teams on project goals, API design, and data contracts.
- Participate in code reviews and security and privacy reviews.
- Mentor junior engineers and drive improvements in code quality, testing, and engineering processes.
Requirements
- 4+ years of software development experience focused on backend technologies.
- Strong professional experience with Python, TypeScript/Node.js, or Rust for backend services.
- Experience leading backend engineering projects.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and SQL query optimization.
- Experience with relational schema design and migrations using a query builder such as Knex.
- Hands-on DevOps experience with Google Cloud Platform and Docker-based build and deployment pipelines.
- Experience deploying, operating, and troubleshooting cloud services.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Sentry and Grafana.
- Experience operating services in production, including on-call or off-hours support.
- Ability to make sound technical decisions amid ambiguity and constraints.

- Performance or load testing experience.

- Open-source contributions or personal engineering projects.
