Senior Python Engineer

Responsibilities

• Develop and support MongoDB Python drivers and subsidiary libraries, including PyMongo, Django MongoDB Backend, PyMongoArrow, and LangChain MongoDB.
• Collaborate with a distributed, worldwide engineering team.
• Write and maintain open source specifications defining common behavior and APIs across MongoDB drivers.
• Investigate bugs and support requests from commercial customers, open source users, and internal users.
• Work with Product and Server teams on designs and specifications for new user-facing MongoDB features.
• Improve the quality, performance, and maintainability of the codebase.
• Design and specify major new features.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns and review peer code.

Requirements

• Substantial experience writing high-quality software in Python.
• Extensive knowledge of Python tools and frameworks, scientific Python, and web development frameworks.
• Practical experience with AI/ML frameworks and technologies in Python.
• Ability to make pragmatic design decisions while balancing usability, maintainability, and delivery time.
• Interest in open source software development and communities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative, self-motivated, organized, and effective time-management skills.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with large language models and agentic tools in Python.
• Participation in open source communities through GitHub, conferences, or speaking engagements.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary range in Canada: $137,000–$189,000 CAD.
