Agent Standards Specialist, Global Affairs

Leads external technical standards strategy for AI agent identity, authorization, discovery, provenance, and auditability. The role translates internal architecture and security controls into credible specifications, coordinates cross-functional approvals, and represents the company in standards forums and industry coalitions.

Responsibilities

  • Own a focused workstream plan for agent identity, discovery, delegated authorization, and related standards.
  • Recommend whether OpenAI should lead, shape, monitor, oppose, or decline participation in assigned standards workstreams.
  • Develop technical standards positions and normative contributions covering principals, agents, runtimes, tasks, sessions, resources, and policy decisions.
  • Shape requirements for scoped delegation, attenuation, approval, revocation, credential custody, runtime binding, discovery, interoperability, provenance, and auditability.
  • Translate internal architecture and controls into specifications, profiles, white papers, and assurance evidence.
  • Lead cross-functional review and approval across Product, Security, Engineering, Legal, GRC, Global Affairs, and GTM.
  • Represent OpenAI in technical standards venues and coalitions, including IETF, OAuth-related work, FIDO, OIDF, W3C, AAIF, NIST, and ISO efforts.
  • Build relationships with peer companies, standards operators, and public-sector stakeholders.
  • Bring external standards intelligence into product, security, compliance, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Create reusable playbooks, decision records, contribution patterns, and implementation handoffs.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in technical standards, internet protocols, identity and access, security architecture, applied cryptography, or related product or infrastructure work.
  • Experience authoring, editing, or materially shaping normative specifications, profiles, drafts, or conformance requirements in technical standards or open-source governance settings.
  • Working knowledge of OAuth, OpenID Connect, FIDO, WebAuth, workload identity, HTTP signatures, delegated authority, credential lifecycle, revocation, provenance, and auditability.
  • Ability to distinguish adopted standards, stable extensions, active drafts, working-group proposals, and exploratory ideas.
  • Ability to build trust with engineers and security leaders and communicate with legal, product, executive, policy, and external standards audiences.
  • Strong judgment in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
  • Clear writing, constructive negotiation, and discretion when representing the company externally.
