About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analyses of in vivo neurobehavioral data; independently design analytical approaches and solve scientific or technical problems
  • Collaborate with the Neurobehavioral Core Laboratory and support scientists to recommend computational approaches, analyze and interpret data, and prepare/present results
  • Support the Neurobehavioral Core Laboratory to develop custom pipelines for raw data acquisition, management, pre-processing, post-processing, and interpretation
  • Analyze large-scale neural and behavioral datasets using machine learning and statistical approaches
  • Implement algorithms for data processing and visualization, optimizing for performance
  • Generate and optimize programs and scripts for data analysis; create programs, algorithms, and computational infrastructure for organizing and parsing large, complex data
  • Serve as bioinformatics expert and coordinate with biologists to conduct experimental queries and perform portions of studies using complex bioinformatics procedures
  • Coordinate building bioinformatics infrastructure to ensure easy and meaningful scientific analysis and interpretation of data
  • Provide broad-based programming and analytic support for a wide variety of bioinformatic and research projects
  • Install, troubleshoot, and run open-source and commercial scientific software on platforms
  • Perform computations on research data analysis and provide interpretive analyses to generate biological meaning
  • Write custom programs and algorithms to support data analyses and discovery
  • Provide reports based on analysis of scientific data
  • Work with staff on scientific programming, experimental design, planning of experiments, and data analysis for internal and collaborative projects
  • Use bioinformatics expertise to advise and help bench scientists on experimental design and troubleshooting
  • Develop specifications for new analysis; design, test, and implement solutions
  • Make recommendations to investigators about correct computational tools for testing hypotheses and reaching valid conclusions
  • Record observations and report results at weekly laboratory meetings; maintain proper documentation
  • Attend scientific and programming meetings; prepare scientific reports, progress reports, tables, graphs, and slides
  • Organize laboratory notebook or computer database to record results; provide weekly and monthly updates
  • Provide statistical support/analysis on research data; devise novel methods of statistical analysis
  • Utilize and adapt existing bioinformatics techniques to check for trends and patterns in the data
  • Perform data processing and data analysis

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Neuroscience, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology or a related discipline (Master's acceptable)
  • Machine Learning Certification
  • Proficiency in: SQL, R, ImageJ, Python, MATLAB, Linux, Shell, PERL, Unix, Java, HPC
  • Experience with: neurobehavioral imaging data analysis, large data sets, cloud-based computing, pipeline development, multi-omics analysis, machine learning, image analysis, neural data analysis, behavioral data analysis
  • Fields of study: Applied Mathematics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Statistics and Decision Science, Physics
