About the role

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute a product-aligned engineering strategy for the RV & Camping (Newbook) platform.
  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of ~10 engineers with feedback, career development, and clear expectations.
  • Stay hands-on by pairing in code, reviewing designs/PRs, and contributing to architecture decisions.
  • Translate business priorities into engineering roadmaps with milestones, KPIs, and outcomes.
  • Oversee design, development, and scaling of cloud-native SaaS applications.
  • Ensure stability, scalability, performance, and security; lead incident response and partner with DevOps.
  • Lead modernization of legacy systems to distributed, service-oriented architectures using AI tools.
  • Champion best practices: automated testing, code quality, CI/CD, and AI-assisted workflows.
  • Set standards for AI-assisted engineering, coach on prompting and code review, sponsor internal AI tools.
  • Track engineering metrics (velocity, uptime, quality, cost) including AI impact; report to leadership.

How You’ll Lead with AI

  • Treat AI as a core engineering tool across design, implementation, testing, and operations.
  • Define standards and guardrails for reviewing AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability.
  • Coach engineers on effective prompting and distinguishing AI acceleration vs. human judgment.
  • Identify and build internal AI tools/automations to reduce repetitive work.
  • Measure and refine AI practices based on impact to velocity, quality, and delivery.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years progressive software engineering experience, including managing engineering teams.
  • Track record delivering SaaS products at scale in fast-paced environments.
  • Hands-on experience building and shipping production web apps with PHP and React (TypeScript/JS welcome); able to review code/designs and mentor seniors.
  • Technical judgment to lead from experience; success transitioning legacy to cloud-native architectures.
  • Fluency with AI tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT); ability to evaluate and improve AI output.
  • Understanding of AWS, scalable infrastructure, and security to partner with DevOps.
  • Strong Agile/Lean experience, process improvement, and cross-functional communication skills.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience modernizing legacy systems or refactoring production codebases.
  • Background with SaaS for complex industry-specific workflows.
  • Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, channel management, or marketplace systems.
  • Built internal AI tools/automations for developer productivity and mentored on AI practices.
