Software Engineer, Community Safety

Build scalable backend tools and features that improve trust and safety for Lyft riders and drivers. The role requires 3+ years of software engineering experience, strong Python or Go skills, and experience with distributed systems and concurrency.

Responsibilities

  • Drive high-impact projects and develop innovative solutions that improve user experience and safety.
  • Collaborate with product, design, engineering, policy, and partner teams to deliver solutions aligned with technical and business needs.
  • Lead features independently from ideation through execution and launch.
  • Unblock, support, and communicate with internal partners.
  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, and maintainable code.
  • Build robust, scalable solutions using Python, Golang, and AWS.
  • Participate in code reviews and on-call rotations.
  • Share knowledge through brown bags and technical talks, and promote engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent experience, in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of software engineering industry experience.
  • Extensive object-oriented programming experience, preferably with Go or Python.
  • Backend development experience with distributed systems and concurrency.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional partners.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: CAD $108,000–$135,000 annually in the Toronto area, excluding potential equity, bonus, and benefits.
