About the role

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with external partners and customers to understand data needs, analytical workflows, and technical constraints, translating them into solutions and application features built on Beacon’s Datastore.
  • Lead technical conversations with partner engineers and data teams, supporting API integrations, data-access patterns, adoption, and downstream analytics.
  • Design, build, and ship customer solutions on Beacon’s or a partner’s platform, including features, tooling, and proof-of-concept integrations.
  • Collaborate with Datastore engineers, product managers, and scientific teams to develop data models, application features, integration tooling, and operational processes.
  • Develop internal tools, services, and queries that improve observability, troubleshooting, and resolution of client data issues.
  • Improve documentation, APIs, data models, and operational processes using partner and stakeholder feedback.
  • Debug production data issues end to end through logs, pipelines, and databases to identify root causes and implement fixes.
  • Write production application and integration code against a PostgreSQL-backed GraphQL API.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in backend software engineering, data engineering, or data platform engineering, including hands-on application development.
  • 3+ years in a customer-facing technical role delivering solutions directly to external partners or clients.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and production PostgreSQL experience, including query tuning, schema design, indexes, and query plans.
  • Experience designing and maintaining operational data models.
  • Experience solving data-related problems with customers or external stakeholders, including requirements gathering, solution design, and delivery.
  • Application development experience across data querying and modeling plus application and integration code.
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Julia.
  • Experience building and consuming APIs, especially GraphQL, and familiarity with REST, batch exports, ELT/ETL, and event sourcing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative, customer-oriented approach.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated data environments.
  • Experience with Julia.
  • Experience querying cloud data warehouses, especially Snowflake.
  • Experience building dashboards with Superset.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $150,000–$170,000.
  • Compensation is adjusted based on experience, skills, and location.
  • Total compensation includes equity, paid time off, and other benefits.
