Staff Software Engineer, Data
Staff-level engineer responsible for the technical direction, reliability, and evolution of a cloud ELT platform supporting healthcare data products. The role requires 7+ years of software or data engineering experience, deep SQL/Python and modern data-platform expertise, and strong architectural and mentoring leadership.

Responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction of the ELT platform across a multi-quarter horizon while balancing strategic investments and pragmatic delivery.
- Write and establish standards for design documents and technical reviews.
- Break down ambiguous, large initiatives into executable work for engineers at different levels.
- Translate business goals and product requirements into platform strategy and shippable designs.
- Provide architectural guidance across the codebase and make cross-project tradeoff decisions.
- Anticipate scaling constraints, systemic risks, reliability issues, and security concerns.
- Provide substantive pull-request and design-document feedback.
- Mentor and coach engineers and help define growth paths.
- Set standards for code quality, testing, observability, security, and HIPAA-compliant handling of protected health information.
- Lead complex incident response and drive preventative follow-up work.
- Establish team practices for AI-assisted development.
Requirements
- 7+ years of professional software or data engineering experience with increasing technical leadership scope.
- Deep expertise in SQL and Python.
- Hands-on expertise with Airflow or a comparable orchestrator, dbt or another modern transformation framework, and Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or a comparable cloud data warehouse.
- Experience solving warehouse, data, and infrastructure scaling problems.
- Extensive experience in a related area such as data platform architecture, HIPAA-compliant data handling, or reliability engineering.
- Experience owning technical roadmaps and shepherding multi-engineer initiatives through delivery.
- Track record of mentoring engineers.
- Comfort working across application boundaries, infrastructure, deployment tooling, observability, and incident response.
- Strong judgment in using AI-assisted development and defining team-wide practices.
- Emphasis on rigorous testing and quality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Pragmatic judgment about long-term investment, technical debt, and delivery.
Nice to Have
- Staff or principal engineering experience on a data platform team.
- Healthcare data standards or EHR integration experience, including HL7 or FHIR.
- Experience with value-based care, PACE, Medicare, or Medicaid populations.
- Snowflake certifications such as SnowPro Core or SnowPro Architect.
- Experience operating services on Kubernetes and setting production reliability standards.
- MongoDB or another document database experience.
- Monitoring and observability experience with Grafana, Loki, Prometheus, or similar tools.
- Experience shaping data engineering hiring, leveling, or organizational design.
- Familiarity with machine learning or AI applications in healthcare analytics.
Compensation
- Base salary range: $180,000-$190,000.
