Responsibilities
- Analyze diverse datasets, including claims data, cybersecurity risk signals, and underwriting databases, to extract meaningful patterns and insights.
- Perform large-scale data analysis to produce risk signals for underwriting and organizational risk evaluation.
- Develop and refine statistical and machine learning models to assess cybersecurity risks for underwriting and pricing.
- Create reports on underwriting efficiency metrics and risk selection quality to inform strategic decisions.
- Apply statistical techniques to evaluate and improve cyber risk assessment methodology.
- Provide analytical support for underwriting strategies that balance growth with risk management.
- Identify and implement opportunities to automate underwriting workflows using advanced analytics and data-driven strategies.
- Collaborate with actuarial, product, and engineering teams to implement data-driven improvements.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives in the area of expertise.
- Serve as a technical lead and mentor within the underwriting team.
- Work with data scientists, software engineers, and cybersecurity engineers to improve underwriting.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in underwriting, quantitative analysis, or risk modeling in the insurance industry.
- Knowledge of underwriting, pricing, reserving, or risk management processes in insurance.
- Advanced SQL skills for querying complex databases and joining disparate data sources.
- Expertise in data manipulation and analysis using Python, R, or similar analytical tools.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
- Experience creating dashboards for operational metrics tracking.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to work with remote teams.
Nice-to-Haves
- Actuarial qualification.
- Experience in cyber insurance or cybersecurity.
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, large datasets and big data technologies such as Snowflake and AWS Athena.
Compensation
- In Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario, the base salary ranges from $137,000/year to $187,000/year.
- For all other Canadian locations, the base salary ranges from $123,600/year to $154,440/year.
