Senior Director, Reliability and Security Engineering

What you will be doing

• Manage and grow the SRE and IT teams while building out security-focused capabilities
• Set a unified technical vision across reliability, security, and IT
• Improve Beacon's security posture through automation, infrastructure hardening, and policy-as-code
• Ensure the reliability and availability of Beacon's cloud infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters powering ML workloads
• Own and evolve incident response practices, including on-call structure, escalation paths, and post-incident learning
• Build self-service IT tooling and workflows that reduce friction while maintaining access controls and compliance
• Own Beacon's compliance roadmap toward HITRUST r2 certification in H1 2027
• Collaborate with engineering teams to embed reliability and security into the development lifecycle
• Develop and mentor direct reports
• Maintain outcome-oriented roadmaps connecting to broader strategic objectives

What you will bring

• 10+ years in SRE, DevOps, infrastructure, or security engineering roles
• 5+ years managing engineering teams including director-level experience
• Experience at a startup or growth-stage company strongly preferred
• Experience managing multiple engineering teams simultaneously and growing a team or function from the ground up
• Strategic leadership with technical depth to set a high bar and engage on architectural decisions
• Experience implementing security controls as code, automated compliance workflows, or tooling that made secure practices the path of least resistance
• Experience with IT operations in a hybrid/remote environment
• Experience in or adjacent to a regulated industry (biopharma, healthcare, fintech) with hands-on compliance frameworks experience
• Strong incident management experience leading incident response in production environments
• Bias towards simplicity and ability to impose structure at the right time
