Senior Director, Engineering

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple teams to influence cross-technical and business decisions, ensuring alignment between engineering execution and company-wide goals.
• Expand from domain-specific focus to include cross-functional oversight, aligning multiple teams and setting direction at a higher level, shaping cross-functional strategy.
• Align engineering teams with the product roadmap by collaborating with product leadership, proactively identifying dependencies, and ensuring strategic initiatives are successfully executed.
• Continuously evaluate and drive process improvements, integrating innovative best practices to enhance efficiency, scalability, and business outcomes.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration to meet key business objectives and resolve team obstacles.
• Provide technical direction for architectural decisions, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, and optimized for long-term success across internal and customer-facing platforms.
• Drive proactive resolution of high-priority technical issues, streamlining escalation and coordination across teams to minimize business impact.
• Manage technical risks, including ensuring systems have backup, failover, and disaster recovery plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 5 years of experience, including 5 years with:
  • Scaling distributed systems and cloud-based platforms.
  • Cloud technologies including AWS (S3, SNS, SES, API Gateway), Kubernetes, ArgoCD.
  • Programming in Python, Ruby, Node, PHP, and .Net.
  • Software development lifecycle, DevOps, security, and compliance best practices.
  • Planning and executing software platform changes with minimal disruption to clients or ongoing activity.
  • Queue mechanisms including RabbitMQ, SQS, Kafka.
  • Analyzing, assessing, and communicating software implementation options according to various IT environments.
  • Databases including Postgres, DynamoDB, and MySQL.
  • Tools including Datadog, Logstash, ElasticSearch, Docker, Redis.
  • Designing and executing plans for software installations.
  • Using and monitoring software distribution channels, techniques, and auto-recovery tools.
  • Integrating and communicating across applications, databases, and platforms.
