Senior Manager, Growth Data Science

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of data scientists by hiring, empowering, and coaching team members while setting a high bar for analytical quality and career growth.
• Shape product and business strategy through data by partnering with Product and cross-functional leaders to identify opportunities, prioritize investments, and influence product roadmaps.
• Develop and scale measurement frameworks, including key metrics, monitoring systems, and rigorous evaluation of product initiatives and AI-powered features.
• Support inferential analyses and experimentation such as A/B testing, segmentation, and funnel analysis.
• Design evaluations for AI and machine-learning-driven systems and ensure findings are actionable and aligned with strategic goals.
• Partner with ML Engineering and Product on personalization, predictions, and intelligent automation, grounding features in customer insight and measuring real-world impact.
• Review and refine hands-on analyses to ensure they are technically sound and business-relevant.
• Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to senior leadership, framing trade-offs and shaping executive decision-making.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data science or related fields.
• At least 4 years managing and scaling high-performing data science teams.
• Deep expertise in product analytics, including user acquisition, activation, retention, engagement, or expansion in SaaS or product-led environments.
• Advanced coding skills, strong statistical reasoning, and familiarity with experimentation frameworks.
• Experience at the intersection of data science and AI product development, including model behavior, evaluation design, and deployment trade-offs.
• Ability to connect insights to product and business goals and influence roadmaps through data.
• Proven executive communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Hands-on experience with machine-learning applications such as personalization, churn prediction, customer segmentation, or LLM-powered features.
• Familiarity with multi-product SaaS ecosystems and customer lifecycle analytics.

Compensation and Benefits

• Competitive base pay, benefits, and equity (RSUs) for full-time employees.
• Targeted cash compensation: $185,000–$217,000 in Denver; $218,000–$255,000 in San Francisco and New York.
• Employees based in Denver, San Francisco, or New York work from the office approximately 2–3 days per week or more depending on the role.
• A secure, reliable, and consistent internet connection is required when working outside a Gusto office.
