Staff Product Engineer, Backend

Responsibilities

• Lead the architectural vision for the backend of a usage-based billing and revenue engineering platform.
• Build reliable metering systems that count usage events, synchronize data with payment providers, and ensure invoice accuracy.
• Own platform reliability and proactively identify risks before they become incidents.
• Foster a security-first culture and improve monitoring and observability practices.
• Define standards for code quality, testing, and observability.
• Mentor engineers, review product requirements for technical feasibility, and simplify complex technical designs.
• Improve cost visibility through usage dashboards and forecasting.
• Strengthen notification pipelines so timely alerts reach the right stakeholders.
• Establish architectural patterns in Go for billing systems.
• Deepen integrations with marketplaces, CRM tools, Stripe, cloud marketplaces, and internal reporting systems.
• Guide the backend team through scaling challenges across billing, metering, and marketplace integrations.

Requirements

• Experience with billing systems or usage-based pricing models.
• Deep architectural expertise building and scaling distributed backend systems using Go.
• Strong understanding of architectural trade-offs and ability to communicate them clearly.
• Expert use of AI and agentic coding tools, with the technical judgment to verify and own the resulting code.
• Thorough testing practices and strong attention to data accuracy where financial transactions are involved.
• Product mindset for internal tools.
• Track record of mentoring engineers, improving team processes, fostering psychological safety, and raising work quality.
• Expertise in observability, OpenTelemetry, and monitoring.

• Stripe API experience.
