Responsibilities
- Develop deep expertise in healthcare subrogation and coordination of benefits (COB).
- Build production-grade backend services using Java and/or Rust.
- Set technical direction, establish programming standards, mentor engineers, and improve team maturity.
- Serve as the backend voice in cross-team planning and cross-functional execution.
- Lead adoption of Rust idioms, safety, and performance practices.
- Contribute to complex in-browser applications with extensible, scalable, and secure architectures.
- Balance customer-facing features with technical debt reduction.
- Architect and implement applications that apply machine learning techniques to large datasets.
- Design reliable, high-performing systems that work together effectively.
- Introduce and improve agentic engineering practices and workflows.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in backend programming; additional full-stack experience is highly desirable.
- Significant experience with Java or Scala; Rust experience is highly desired.
- Experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems on cloud services at scale, including high throughput and high availability.
- Experience with SQL and relational databases.
- Ability to write technical design documents and translate ambiguous product intent into concrete backend designs.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration with engineering, product management, machine learning/data science, and leadership teams.
- Pragmatic problem-solving skills and a systems-oriented approach.
- Hands-on experience with agentic engineering tools and workflows in production.
- Ability to understand complex code, own code quality, and improve existing systems.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a high-growth, high-stakes environment.
- Comfort working through complexity and defining paths forward.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.

- Technical leadership in Rust best practices, including idioms, safety, and performance, across greenfield projects.
