Infrastructure Software Engineering Intern
Winter infrastructure and site reliability internship focused on building and operating minimal, on-premises backend infrastructure for a semiconductor fabrication facility. Responsibilities
- Build and evolve infrastructure-as-code tooling for complex, multi-environment deployments.
- Help manage and maintain on-premises server fleets, ensuring high availability and efficient resource utilization.
- Monitor and maintain system performance and health across diverse production workloads.
- Design, implement, and refine alerting systems to identify issues before they affect users.
- Build automation to reduce operational toil.
- Implement secure secret management.
- Debug production issues across the stack.
- Partner with engineering teams to understand infrastructure needs and deliver robust, scalable solutions.
Requirements
- Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated software-engineering skill.
- Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, or other systems-oriented languages.
- Understanding of Linux systems, networking fundamentals, and distributed-systems concepts.
- Experience building or maintaining substantial infrastructure, automation, or tooling projects through personal, academic, or professional work.
- Interest in systems reliability, observability, infrastructure automation, or performance optimization.
- Portfolio or GitHub demonstrating software-engineering projects is required.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with configuration management or fleet management at scale.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or Datadog.
- Familiarity with performance profiling and capacity planning.
- Experience with database administration, backup strategies, or disaster recovery.
- Exposure to secret-management systems such as Vault or SOPS, or to PKI.
Compensation and Benefits
- Hourly compensation equivalent to an annualized range of $114,000–$131,000, depending on experience and education; actual earnings vary with hours worked.
