Conduct research and develop foundation models for robotic manipulation and high-precision manufacturing, taking projects from data curation through deployment on industrial robots. The role requires current PhD study, strong Python and deep learning expertise, robotics simulation experience, and research in foundation models.

Responsibilities
- Work with the Special Projects AI team on next-generation foundation models powering GrayMatter Robotics solutions.
- Develop foundation models for high-precision manufacturing applications using multimodal data.
- Address complex, ambiguous problems independently on accelerated timelines.
- Validate models through rigorous testing on industrial robots and production parts.
- Own the project lifecycle, including data curation, simulation, model training, evaluation, and robot deployment.
- Write maintainable, production-quality code for internal research and development.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a PhD in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Research experience with foundation models for robot manipulation applications.
- Proficiency in Python and at least one deep learning framework; PyTorch preferred.
- Strong knowledge of current world model and foundation model research.
- Experience with robotics simulation environments or physics-based modeling, such as Isaac Lab or MuJoCo.
- Experience with reinforcement learning, imitation learning, or policy optimization for robotic manipulation or process control.
- Experience with robotics middleware and tooling, such as ROS or ROS2, and deployment on real robotic hardware.
- Publication record in venues such as ICRA, CoRL, RSS, IROS, RA-L, or T-RO, combined with demonstrated interest in real-world production impact.
Nice to Have
- Experience training vision-language-action or vision-language models.
- Experience with industrial manipulators and research deployed in industrial environments.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary range of $83,200–$104,000.
