Build and optimize the backend of Atlas's email marketing program including ESP configuration, data integrations, segmentation, templates, automations, reporting, QA and deliverability. Requires 4+ years marketing ops experience with deep ESP expertise (SendGrid/Twilio required) and systems architecture skills.

Responsibilities
- Build and maintain connections between database/BI tools and ESP for reliable flow of customer attributes and behavioral events.
- Build segmentation and targeting logic for pulling lists and targeting sends without manual data work.
- Configure template system with dynamic marketing and transactional templates for clean propagation of global changes.
- Build automated lifecycle flows that run consistently without ongoing intervention.
- Configure reporting on standard email performance metrics.
- Set up QA, deliverability testing across email clients, and maintain sender reputation.
- Document the system and train the marketing team to build and send campaigns independently.
- Collaborate closely with the marketing function.
- Optimize existing setup, recommend and implement new tooling as needed.
Requirements
- 4+ years in marketing operations with deep experience in email campaign operations.
- Deep hands-on expertise with major ESPs/marketing automation platforms (campaign structures, segmentation, list management, lifecycle configuration).
- SendGrid/Twilio experience required.
- Deep command of email systems architecture: dynamic/modular templates, automation logic, triggers, long-term maintainability.
- Experience connecting data sources to ESP (database, warehouse, BI tool) via native integrations, API, reverse ETL, etc.
- Strong segmentation and targeting skills for dynamic, attribute and behavior-based segments.
- Excellent cross-functional communication to translate technical constraints to non-technical stakeholders.
- Sharp eye for email design, rendering, and QA.
- Self-directed and low-ego; excited to build, document, and hand off.
Nice-to-Haves
- Multivariate & A/B testing, structuring experiments, holdouts, and turning results into reporting.
- Hands-on HTML/CSS for email and templating languages (e.g. Liquid).
- Deliverability depth: SPF/DKIM/DMARC, sender reputation, inbox placement.
- SQL and comfort querying data to build/validate segments.
- Experience enabling support/ops teams to send consistent branded customer email (e.g. via Zendesk).
- Experience evaluating or migrating between ESPs.
- Experience across transactional (Mailgun, Postmark, Amazon SES) and marketing providers (Braze, Iterable, Klaviyo, Customer.io).
