Senior Research Engineer

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with partners to tailor OlmoEarth models to specific applications across multiple domains.
• Understand business cases and requirements, train machine learning models, and deploy solutions at scale.
• Debug training loops and develop and deploy task-specific heads for encoders.
• Build repeatable processes and operational systems while prioritizing and organizing work effectively.
• Scan technical literature to inform technical discussions.
• Travel domestically and internationally as needed.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience deploying machine learning solutions across the full machine learning lifecycle.
• Fluency in PyTorch.
• Experience debugging machine learning training loops.
• Experience developing and deploying task-specific heads for encoders.
• Working experience with geospatial toolsets or platforms such as Google Earth Engine, QGIS, or ArcGIS.
• Familiarity with remote sensing, Earth observation, or environmental science.
• Strong written communication skills across formats and audiences.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Strong ownership, prioritization, organization, and self-directed learning skills.
• Ability to use AI tools effectively while critically evaluating their output.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in mission-driven, resource-constrained environments, including work with NGOs, government agencies, or research institutions.
• Experience with self-supervised machine learning methods, particularly for Vision Transformer (ViT) architectures.
• Comfort scanning technical literature.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary: $174,240–$261,360.
• Annual bonuses and participation in a long-term incentive plan.
