Core Software Engineer
Optimizes the performance of ClickHouse’s core distributed database through query tuning, low-level systems work, regression testing, and production debugging. Requires professional C++ and Unix experience, strong database internals knowledge, and performance engineering expertise.

Responsibilities
- Analyze and optimize the performance of the core ClickHouse database.
- Work on query optimization, distributed query optimization, relational operators such as aggregation and joins, caching, and low-level optimizations including SIMD instructions.
- Extend existing and add new performance tests using real-world and synthetic datasets to prevent database performance regression.
- Help Support Engineering debug advanced customer performance issues.
- Collaborate with core engineering teams to assess the performance impact of new features and provide testing and performance guidance.
- Engage with the open-source community by resolving issues, reviewing and completing pull requests, and answering questions across community channels.
- Participate in detailed, collaborative code reviews.
Requirements
- Solid professional software development experience in C++.
- Experience with Unix systems.
- Strong knowledge of database internals and design.
- Experience in performance engineering, ideally involving databases or other performance-sensitive systems.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, production debugging, ownership, and accountability skills.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and with open-source communities.
