Assistant General Counsel - Commercial

Leads commercial legal strategy for Kraken’s high-impact product partnerships and complex technology transactions, partnering across product, engineering, sales, finance, and regulatory teams. Requires a legal degree, active license, and at least eight years of commercial legal experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial legal strategy and execution for high-visibility product partnerships and complex commercial arrangements.
  • Partner with Product, Sales, Engineering, Finance, and Regulatory teams on go-to-market structures and partnership models.
  • Advise leadership and stakeholders on technology agreements, strategic partnerships, terms of service, and other commercial matters.
  • Develop and improve legal templates, playbooks, AI processes, and risk-management frameworks.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Tax, and Regulatory teams to assess legal risk and implement practical solutions.
  • Support contract lifecycle management, legal process automation, and tooling improvements.
  • Assist with M&A activities, including contract diligence and integration.
  • Mentor and manage high-performing teams.

Requirements

  • J.D. or equivalent legal degree.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction.
  • 8+ years of commercial legal experience, ideally combining top-tier law firm and in-house experience.
  • Experience leading complex, high-stakes commercial transactions in a global environment.
  • Experience with technology, SaaS, or strategic partnerships.
  • Strong understanding of product development and go-to-market strategies from a legal perspective.
  • Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and decisively in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fintech, crypto, or other highly regulated-sector experience.
  • Familiarity with vendor onboarding, procurement, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience partnering with product and engineering teams to launch consumer-facing and enterprise products.
  • Experience implementing or managing contract lifecycle management tools.
  • Interest in crypto, Web3, and emerging technologies.
