Senior Commercial & Product Counsel

Owns commercial and product legal work, including technology negotiations, data licensing, AI, privacy, and intellectual-property counseling. The role requires 5–8 years of sophisticated experience, strong independent judgment, U.S. bar membership, and practical AI fluency.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate enterprise customer agreements, data-licensing deals, vendor contracts, and partnership agreements from start to finish.
  • Partner directly with sales and business development on live deals.
  • Advise product and engineering teams on data access, privacy, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, and regulatory issues.
  • Handle novel and higher-risk matters, including AI output ownership, permissioning, and licensing structures.
  • Build contracting processes, templates, playbooks, fallback positions, and approval thresholds.
  • Implement company policies and compliance programs.
  • Determine when outside counsel is needed and manage those relationships.
  • Own legal matters independently and provide practical business recommendations and risk assessments.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of sophisticated commercial, technology, or product counseling experience.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating technology agreements directly with counterparties.
  • Membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • Strong judgment, autonomy, escalation instincts, and ability to work effectively with engineers and sales professionals.
  • Heavy, effective use of AI in legal practice.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not currently available.

Nice-to-haves

  • J.D. from a T14 law school or comparable academic credentials.
  • Experience at an Am Law 100 or comparably sophisticated firm.
  • Exposure to data licensing, privacy, intellectual property, or data-access matters.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of $301,000–$324,000 per year.
  • Eligibility for up to $50,000 in semi-annual performance bonuses, totaling up to $100,000 annually.
