Responsibilities
- Identify areas where machine learning can create value for customers.
- Frame product problems appropriately for machine learning.
- Collaborate with teammates and Product and Design stakeholders.
- Conduct exploratory data analysis and research.
- Develop a deep understanding of problem areas.
- Research and identify suitable algorithms and tools.
- Apply pragmatic solutions while innovating toward cutting-edge approaches when needed.
- Perform offline evaluations to gather evidence that algorithms will work.
- Work with engineers to bring prototypes to production.
- Plan, measure, and communicate learnings to inform iteration.
- Partner with the wider team to build excellent machine learning products.
Requirements
- Broad applied machine learning knowledge.
- 3–5 years of applied machine learning experience.
- Practical statistics knowledge, including experiment design and handling confounding factors.
- Intermediate programming skills.
- Strong communication skills within engineering teams and across disciplines.
- Comfort with ambiguity.
- Typically, advanced education in machine learning or a related field, such as an MSc.
- Scientific thinking skills.
Nice-to-haves
- A track record of shipping machine learning products.
- A PhD or other experience in a research environment.
- Deep experience in an applicable machine learning area, such as natural language processing, deep learning, Bayesian methods, reinforcement learning, or clustering.
- Strong statistics or mathematics background.
- Visualization and data skills, including SQL and Matplotlib.
