Tax Director, Provision & Compliance

Leads global income tax provision and US compliance for a rapidly scaling technology company, overseeing ASC 740, audit relationships, tax controls, M&A transactions, and infrastructure financing analysis. Responsibilities

  • Own quarterly and annual worldwide income tax provision, including current and deferred computations, effective tax rate reconciliations, deferred tax inventory, valuation allowances, stock-based compensation, uncertain tax positions, and return-to-provision true-ups.
  • Manage tax journal entries, account reconciliations, income tax footnotes and disclosures, workpapers, and SOX controls; manage the financial statement audit relationship with Big Four auditors.
  • Coordinate international provision activities with internal teams and outside advisors while improving close speed and quality.
  • Manage US federal and state income tax compliance, including returns, estimated payments, extensions, elections, disclosures, and the compliance calendar.
  • Own cash tax forecasting and support tax notices, examinations, and audit defense.
  • Drive automation and tax technology adoption, including AI tooling.
  • Lead tax purchase price allocation workpapers, tax diligence, transaction structuring, and integration for acquisitions.
  • Analyze data center and compute infrastructure arrangements, leases, sale-leasebacks, build-out cost recovery, financing structures, debt-versus-equity characterization, warrants, and joint ventures.
  • Prepare technical memos and model cash tax and effective tax rate consequences for proposed transactions.
  • Mentor tax team members, build the function, and manage outside advisors, budgets, and relationships.

Requirements

  • Substantial corporate tax experience in multinational software and technology companies, combining Big Four public accounting and in-house tax department experience.
  • Full ownership of the ASC 740 provision cycle, including deferred taxes, valuation allowances, uncertain tax positions, disclosures, SOX controls, and auditor management.
  • Experience managing US federal and state income tax compliance programs and co-sourced Big Four arrangements.
  • Hands-on experience with complex M&A transactions, tax purchase price allocations, ASC 805 opening balance sheet accounting, diligence, and structuring.
  • Ability to write clear technical memos and communicate tax issues to non-tax stakeholders.
  • CPA required; Master's in Taxation or LLM preferred.
  • Experience with infrastructure transactions, financing structures, equity instruments, or pre-IPO/public-company reporting is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Compensation

  • Annual salary: $230,000–$300,000 USD.
