Senior Database Administrator
The Senior Database Administrator will design, operate, secure, and optimize high-volume PostgreSQL databases supporting a scalable SaaS platform. The role requires 6+ years managing databases at scale, strong performance-tuning expertise, and experience with high availability, automation, observability, and recovery.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement database architecture solutions that scale with a growing SaaS platform.
- Lead database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting initiatives.
- Investigate and resolve complex production database performance and availability issues, including root-cause analysis, incident mitigation, and long-term improvements.
- Collaborate with software development teams to optimize database queries and schema designs.
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to automate routine database administration tasks and maintenance procedures.
- Extend and maintain database observability tools to monitor performance and capacity, analyze historical data, identify trends, and proactively address issues.
- Implement and maintain database security measures and access controls.
- Mentor and teach engineering teams to write optimized, performant database queries.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience managing databases at scale.
- Experience in a SaaS environment with high-availability requirements.
- Strong understanding of OLTP databases, specifically PostgreSQL in high-volume environments.
- Experience with database replication, partitioning, sharding, and clustering.
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and schema design.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
- Knowledge of backup and recovery tools and methodologies.
- Detail-oriented, organized, collaborative, independent, highly motivated, and solution-driven.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build authentic business relationships.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with cloud platforms, specifically Google Cloud Platform and Cloud SQL.
- Knowledge of containerization and orchestration with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and GCP SQL Query Insights.
- PostgreSQL or related technology certifications.
- Experience troubleshooting PostgreSQL WAL and VACUUM behavior.
- Experience with OLAP columnar databases such as ClickHouse.
