Responsibilities
- Design and evolve MySQL schemas for high-volume transactional workloads.
- Improve data-platform architecture through online schema changes, low-downtime migrations, blue/green deployments, and scalability initiatives.
- Analyze and optimize SQL queries, indexes, and execution plans.
- Develop production-quality software, persistence-layer improvements, developer tooling, reusable libraries, frameworks, and data-platform capabilities.
- Design scalable data models balancing performance, maintainability, and long-term growth.
- Lead database performance-tuning and modernization initiatives.
- Design safe, repeatable database migration strategies for continuous delivery.
- Investigate and resolve production issues involving application performance, database behavior, locking, concurrency, and data integrity.
- Establish standards for schema design, indexing, SQL development, migrations, and data-access patterns.
- Partner with Platform Engineering on monitoring, backups, disaster recovery, and operational resilience.
- Use Google Cloud services to improve reliability, scalability, and observability.
- Mentor engineers and lead technical design discussions and architecture reviews.
- Evaluate technologies and advise on database architecture, application performance, and data-platform practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong backend development experience with Java, C#, Go, Python, Kotlin, Scala, or similar languages.
- Expert-level MySQL experience in large-scale production environments.
- Deep understanding of SQL optimization, query execution plans, indexing, transactions, isolation levels, locking, concurrency, schema design, normalization, replication, and high availability.
- Experience designing scalable schemas for high-volume transactional applications.
- Experience troubleshooting complex application and database performance issues.
- Experience implementing database migrations for continuous delivery.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, and engineering best practices.
- Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing architecture across engineering teams.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Interest in improving developer productivity through automation, tooling, testing frameworks, benchmarking, and engineering practices.

Compensation
- Salary: $130,000–$180,000 USD annually.
- Annual target bonus: 10%.
