About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operations of the dbt Slack community, ensuring a welcoming, high-signal experience for members worldwide.
  • Partner with community leaders and internal stakeholders to evolve channel strategy, community guidelines, and engagement programming.
  • Develop and maintain scalable moderation and support workflows, including triage, escalation paths, response playbooks, and Code of Conduct enforcement.
  • Coach and support moderators and community champions; recruit and onboard new moderators as the community grows.
  • Create content systems that keep members informed and activated through announcements, highlights, prompts, and community storytelling.
  • Surface community insights and member feedback to Product, Marketing, and Support, and close the loop with the community on outcomes.
  • Monitor and report on engagement and health metrics, including growth, activation, retention, response times, and sentiment; run experiments to improve results.
  • Manage the digital engagement tool stack, including Slack workflows, analytics, knowledge bases, integrations, and web portals, and document best practices.
  • Plan and manage incident response in collaboration with Legal, People, and Security as needed.
  • Support digital engagement across community forums, social channels, and events to create a cohesive member journey.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in digital community management, online engagement, or community program management in a global or distributed environment.
  • Experience owning day-to-day operations for a large online community such as Slack, Discord, or a forum, including moderation, member support, and community health.
  • Strong understanding of online community dynamics and cultivating trust, belonging, and shared purpose at scale.
  • Experience building and improving moderation and support workflows, including Code of Conduct enforcement.
  • Excellent written communication and facilitation skills, including empathetic responses, de-escalation, and productive conversation facilitation.
  • Experience with community tooling and analytics, such as Slack workflows and Common Room.
  • Data-informed decision-making, including defining engagement and health KPIs, measuring impact, and reporting outcomes.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Marketing, Support, and Developer Experience teams.
  • Cultural fluency and sensitivity to communication differences across regions and time zones.
  • High emotional intelligence and comfort navigating conflict, ambiguity, and sensitive topics.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience building and scaling a high-engagement Slack or Discord community with measurable impact.
  • Crisis or incident leadership in online spaces, including Code of Conduct enforcement and safety escalation.
  • Experience turning member insights into product roadmap or marketing outcomes and closing the loop with the community.
  • Experience designing scalable workflows and automation for intake, triage, routing, analytics, and knowledge systems.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual compensation range: $130,068–$162,585.50 USD.
