About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop engineering managers, senior engineers, and emerging technical leaders across Authentication.
  • Translate product and engineering strategy into a technical roadmap, execution plan, and operating model.
  • Improve the reliability, scalability, and operational health of cloud-native, API-based distributed systems supporting customer-facing authentication journeys.
  • Drive predictable, high-quality delivery through prioritization, planning, cross-team coordination, and execution discipline.
  • Raise standards for architecture, observability, testing, incident response, postmortems, and engineering practices.
  • Partner with Product, Research, Security, Platform, and adjacent engineering teams on roadmap priorities, technical investments, and customer outcomes.
  • Own metrics for delivery health, system performance, team effectiveness, and on-call sustainability.
  • Serve as a senior technical escalation point for complex customer issues and production incidents, driving durable follow-through.
  • Guide the safe production use of AI/ML-backed trust signals, model outputs, and automation.
  • Foster accountability, inclusion, learning, and calm execution under pressure.

Requirements

  • 8–12+ years of software engineering experience, including significant experience building and operating distributed backend systems and production APIs.
  • 3–5+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leadership through managers and/or senior technical leads.
  • Technical depth in cloud-native architecture, microservices, observability, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices across AWS and/or GCP.
  • Experience improving reliability, execution, and engineering standards for customer-facing, high-availability systems.
  • Hands-on backend experience with Go and/or Python, plus strong knowledge of data stores and low-latency service design.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills with Product, Security, Support, Customer Success, and engineering teams.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in authentication, identity, fraud prevention, risk engines, or security-sensitive product domains.
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, SAML, RBAC/ABAC, and policy-driven access patterns.
  • Experience partnering with Research, MLOps, or data teams to productionize model outputs, risk signals, or AI/ML capabilities.
  • Experience leading teams operating multi-cloud services with substantial on-call responsibilities and incident loads.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base pay range: $195,000–$235,000 USD.
  • Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus and RSUs.
