Manufacturing Engineer
The Manufacturing Engineer will build and scale the mechanical supply chain for autonomous robots, owning technical sourcing, supplier qualification, vendor execution, prototyping, and manufacturing readiness. The role requires a bachelor's degree and 4–6 years of mechanical-component sourcing experience, including global supplier exposure.

Responsibilities
- Source mechanical components across CNC machining (milling, turning, and grinding), sheet metal fabrication (laser cutting, bending, stamping, and welding), structural fabrication, castings, wheels, fasteners, and surface treatments such as anodising, powder coating, and plating.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with mechanical suppliers across India and China; develop a resilient cross-geography supplier base.
- Build and maintain an Approved Vendor List with 3–5 qualified mechanical vendors per critical BOM line item and 20–30 qualified fabrication and machining partners overall.
- Drive BOM standardisation and technical alignment with mechanical engineering, including drawings, GD&T, tolerances, material specifications, and surface finishes before RFQ release.
- Conduct vendor audits and capability assessments; verify machine capability, inspection equipment, in-house versus outsourced operations, process capability (Cpk), and quality systems.
- Identify and onboard dedicated CNC and sheet metal manufacturing partners for rapid prototyping, targeting a turnaround of 5 days or less from drawing release to part-in-hand.
- Coordinate fabrication, assembly, First Article Inspection (FAI), and pilot manufacturing readiness with mechanical contract manufacturers.
- Lead FAI and dimensional capability reviews; align inspection plans, CMM reports, and acceptance criteria between engineering and supplier quality teams.
- Drive mechanical BOM cost optimisation through should-cost modelling, structured RFQs, process re-engineering, raw-material rationalisation, and alternate sourcing.
- Establish multi-source strategies for critical CNC and sheet metal components and evaluate tooling investments for volume-driven parts.
- Provide DFM and DFA feedback to mechanical engineering, identifying cost-reduction and manufacturability opportunities.
- Maintain procurement trackers, lead-time data, inventory visibility, and mechanical supply-chain risk dashboards.
- Implement vendor performance scorecards covering quality PPM, OTIF, RFQ responsiveness, and cost competitiveness; run quarterly business reviews.
- Support long-term mechanical vendor development and scale-up to 200 units per year.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- 4–6 years of experience in technical sourcing or procurement of mechanical components, including CNC-machined parts, sheet metal, welded or structural fabrication, castings, and surface-treatment partners.
- Global sourcing experience beyond India; China exposure is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal forming and joining, welding, casting, fasteners, and surface treatments including anodising, powder coating, plating, and painting.
- Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, GD&T callouts, tolerance stack-ups, and surface-finish specifications.
- Strong grounding in material selection, including steel grades, aluminium alloys, and plastics, and their cost and process implications.
