Senior Product Engineer

Responsibilities

• Build systems for identity verification, risk scoring, fraud detection, and real-time AI-powered incident detection.
• Develop customer-facing products that improve the lives of users and pets.
• Own problems end-to-end, from understanding business needs and designing solutions to shipping and monitoring them in production.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and data scientists to define requirements and drive projects forward.
• Maintain high standards of code quality, maintainability, testing, observability, and engineering craftsmanship.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, share knowledge, and provide technical leadership.
• Use AI coding assistants to generate, debug, refactor, review, and explore code while critically validating their output.
• Work across the stack, including navigating React/TypeScript frontends when needed.

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record delivering backend systems.
• Experience mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, leading technical design reviews, or shaping engineering practices.
• Strong backend engineering experience, ideally with Python and Django; experience with Java, Go, C#, or Kotlin is also welcome.
• Knowledge of relational databases, including schema design, query optimization, and migrations.
• Experience with structured logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Strong automated testing discipline across unit, integration, and contract testing.
• Daily experience using AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or Copilot.
• Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and handle ambiguity.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, or XP.
• Good written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• React or React Native experience.
• Distributed systems experience with async task queues such as Celery or RabbitMQ, caching layers such as Memcached or Redis, and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch or similar search infrastructure.
• REST API design at scale, including Django REST Framework or an equivalent.
• Exposure to continuous deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience building custom AI-assisted development workflows or automating repetitive tasks.
