About the role

Responsibilities

  • Translate company, product, and technology objectives into a 1–3-year engineering plan, operating model, organizational structure, and execution roadmap.
  • Lead rebuild-versus-refactor decisions for platform enhancement and integration across all platforms.
  • Create the engineering organizational structure and lead the engineering team.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent and establish operating standards.
  • Set engineering-wide standards for planning, estimation, delivery, code quality, testing, CI/CD, and on-call and incident response.
  • Establish engineering metrics, operating rhythms, and governance for executive visibility into execution.
  • Own technical architecture, infrastructure, security, technical debt, speed, and long-term stability.
  • Improve engineering velocity while reducing technical debt and operational risk.
  • Partner with product and business stakeholders to translate customer requirements into engineering priorities and roadmap decisions.
  • Manage the engineering budget, including headcount, vendors, tooling, cloud costs, and total cost of ownership.
  • Own SOC 2 and broader security and compliance posture across engineering, partnering with IT and external auditors.
  • Establish feedback loops, retrospectives, postmortems, and engineering-wide metrics for continuous improvement.
  • Build and protect an engineering culture centered on ownership, blameless problem-solving, and technical excellence.
  • Champion agentic AI, LLM-powered code generation, and multi-agent orchestration to improve how services are built and operated.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • 7+ years leading engineering managers.
  • Experience with marketplaces or enterprise platforms and large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
  • Experience building an engineering organization from the ground up or through a major scaling inflection point.
  • Track record of setting technical vision and translating it into trusted executive and board-level roadmaps.
  • Strong technical depth, strategic thinking, and operational leadership.
  • Experience communicating engineering strategy, risk, and resourcing to non-technical executives and board members.
  • Experience scaling engineering organizations in high-growth or mission-critical environments.
  • Hands-on background with cloud-native architecture, AWS-managed services, infrastructure as code, and containers.
  • Experience owning security and compliance programs, including SOC 2 controls and audit management.
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling and developer experience practices.
  • Experience with API management and service-oriented, API-driven architectures.
  • Ability to manage budgets, vendor relationships, and cost efficiency.
  • Passion for developing people and managers.

Nice to have

  • Experience in e-commerce, B2B SaaS, marketplace businesses, or mobile counterparts.
  • Experience with AWS EKS, ECR, Route 53, SES, ElastiCache, and RDS.

  • Base salary: $240,000–$270,000 USD.
