Assistant General Counsel

Assistant General Counsel will serve as the second in-house lawyer, leading adtech-focused data privacy and commercial contracting while supporting fintech and company-wide legal matters. The role requires a JD, active bar membership, approximately seven or more years of post-JD experience, and strong autonomy.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate and close commercial agreements for the adtech business, including data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, SOWs, and order forms with agencies, platforms, publishers, and retail media networks.
  • Advise product, engineering, and growth teams on new features and data flows.
  • Build the data privacy program, including data inventory, consent and opt-out reviews, vendor diligence, and consumer data request processes.
  • Support expansion of the consumer fintech business alongside specialist consumer regulatory counsel.
  • Build legal operations using AI where appropriate, including intake, negotiation playbooks, self-service templates, first-pass contract review, matter management, reporting, and company-wide contracting and signature-authority policies.
  • Manage outside counsel, including scope, budget, and rates.
  • Support legal matters across shared services, employment, intellectual property, corporate matters, structured financings, insurance, and state-level licensing.

Requirements

  • JD and active bar membership in good standing.
  • Approximately 7+ years of post-JD experience, combining law firm training with in-house experience.
  • Deep data privacy experience, ideally in adtech, data licensing, or a data-driven consumer business.
  • Experience with state privacy laws, consent and opt-out mechanics, sensitive data, data broker and deletion-request regimes, and controller and processor allocation in DPAs.
  • Substantial high-volume commercial and sales contracting experience, including data licenses, MSAs, DPAs, SOWs, and order forms.
  • Legal operations experience and AI fluency.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Consumer financial services or fintech experience, including earned wage access, buy-now-pay-later, or bank partnerships.
  • Knowledge of TILA and Regulation Z, EFTA and Regulation E, FCRA, the Military Lending Act, TCPA, UDAAP, GLBA, and state licensing and registration regimes.
  • Experience managing litigation, arbitration, or regulatory matters.
