About the role
Responsibilities
- Design the future state of technical systems by combining strategic product goals with deep system understanding to inform technical and product tradeoffs.
- Lead engineers across teams in building technical solutions.
- Mentor and grow peers' capabilities.
- Pioneer AI usage in building systems and guest features.
- Participate in product and UX requirements development with designers, PMs, and stakeholders.
- Nurture culture of technical quality from design through production.
- Identify and propose solutions to technical and product engineering challenges.
- Collaborate with teams across Search, Checkout, Reservations, Host Settings, Listings, Payments, Tax, Cities, and Trust.
Requirements
- 10+ years of relevant software development experience in fast-paced tech environments.
- Expertise with backend systems in large-scale service-oriented architectures.
- Strong judgment in balancing short-term business needs with long-term technical quality.
- Deep understanding of how backend systems impact customer UX.
- End-to-end mentality for globally optimal solutions.
- Excellent communication and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Passion for efficiency, availability, system quality, and user experience.
Compensation
Base pay range: $212,000—$265,000 USD. May include bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
