Software Engineer - Pre-trade analytics, risk, portfolio optimization

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain the Alpha Platform: a modern, AI-driven system for pre-trade analytics, risk, hedging, portfolio optimization, and customized client exposure management
• Work across the full stack from data ingestion and processing pipelines to AI-driven analytics and client-facing API layers
• Design, implement, and deliver highly scalable services with clean system design and efficient implementation
• Define engineering standards, mentor team members, and drive system design approaches for new services
• Evolve technical standards and best practices while promoting a culture of engineering excellence

Requirements

• At least 5 years of professional experience implementing highly scalable services in Java (Spring Framework) and/or Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, async patterns)
• Experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and data processing libraries such as Pandas or Polars
• Fluency in AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Claude Code) and Spec-Driven Development (SDD)
• Strong command of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
• Ability to take end-to-end ownership of complex or ambiguous problems from design through production delivery
• Clear articulation of system design and architectural paradigms to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Prioritization of end-user experience in API design, functionality, and performance
• Willingness to work in or learn financial risk and pre-trade analytics domains

Nice-to-Haves

• Hands-on experience with gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, Docker, Gradle, uv, AWS, and Kubernetes
• Exposure to finance concepts including swaps, custom baskets, trade lifecycle, performance calculations, attribution, and factor models

Compensation & Benefits

• Base Salary Range: $170,000 - $220,000
