About the role
Responsibilities
- Design for key developer workflows across the software engineering lifecycle, with a focus on software teams building with AI.
- Map and clarify complex workflows to identify experience flaws and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive user research: plan and run discovery through validation, synthesize findings into problem statements and opportunity areas.
- Define user experience strategy and current to future state narratives, explaining tradeoffs.
- Design reusable patterns for the LaunchDarkly platform: user journeys, information architecture, interaction patterns, visual design.
- Deliver high-quality design artifacts (user flows, wireframes, prototypes, mock-ups) for fast iteration.
- Iterate quickly on existing surfaces while exploring visionary approaches.
- Ground decisions in evidence: partner on metrics/dashboards, use usability testing, research, experimentation, analytics.
- Collaborate in triad model with product management and engineering on scope, sequencing, tradeoffs.
- Pair with design partner and UX team for cohesive experience.
- Define and monitor success metrics (e.g., task success, activation, reduced time-to-remediation).
- Contribute to UX team: integrate patterns into design system, connect experiences, participate in critiques, mentor.
Qualifications
- 6–8+ years designing complex, shipped products, ideally in developer tools, AI tooling or configuration-heavy B2B SaaS.
- Strong foundations in UI/interaction design, information architecture, systems design for multi-state/rules-based/configurable products.
- Proven end-to-end design leadership: discovery, problem definition, concepting, prototyping, validation, implementation, iteration.
- Connect design to metrics: discuss business/customer/operational KPIs, use usability testing/research.
- Comfort in technical/AI-adjacent domains: familiarity with APIs, SDKs, agentic/developer workflows, prompts, agents, evaluations, observability, experimentation.
- Excellent communication/storytelling: explain states, decisions, tradeoffs; facilitate alignment.
Compensation
Target pay ranges for Level P4:
- Zone 1 (San Francisco/Bay Area/NYC Metro, Boston, Seattle): $171,200 - $235,400
- Zone 2 (Irvine/LA/Monterey/Santa Barbara/Santa Rosa/Austin/Portland/Philadelphia/Chicago): $154,100 - $211,860
- Zone 3 (All other US): $145,500 - $200,090 RSUs, health/vision/dental insurance, mental health benefits.
