Product Counsel

180k – 230kNew York, NYLegalRemote4+ YOE
Summary

Provides product and regulatory counseling for U.S.-focused payouts platform, partnering with Product, Engineering, and Compliance. Drafts/negotiates customer agreements, creates legal playbooks, with 4-6 years law experience in payments/fintech and J.D.

About the role

What you’ll do

  • Own day-to-day product and regulatory counseling for key parts of our payouts platform (U.S.-focused). Partner with Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Ops from early design through launch and scale, giving clear guidance that teams can implement.
  • Help shape how we build and ship in a regulated space. Translate U.S. payments and consumer-protection requirements into pragmatic product guardrails, customer-facing terms/disclosures, and durable internal guidance.
  • Be a core driver of our contracting engine as we scale. Work with our commercial attorney to negotiate and draft customer agreements (and related terms) and help keep cycle times fast and standards consistent as Sales expands.
  • Create leverage. Turn repeat questions into playbooks, checklists, and templates so teams can move quickly without reinventing decisions.
  • Pitch in as a generalist. Jump in and run important tasks to ground.

What you’ll bring

  • 4–6 years of experience practicing law (mix of law firm + in-house preferred), with at least some in-house at a tech or fintech company.
  • Foundation in U.S. financial regulatory issues relevant to payments / money movement (e.g., consumer protection, payment rails, partner-bank/processor models).
  • Strong product-counseling instincts to turn ambiguity into practical recommendations and help teams make tradeoffs.
  • Solid drafting and negotiation skills for agreements.
  • Clear written communication and ability to build trust cross-functionally in a remote environment.
  • J.D. and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with bank partners, processors, card/prepaid programs, or regulated payments infrastructure.
  • Experience supporting audits/exams, regulator/partner diligence, or managing outside counsel.

Compensation: Base salary $180,000–$230,000.
