Staff Software Engineer, Cloud
Leads architecture and technical direction for Redpanda Cloud’s customer-facing sign-up, account, billing, payments, and marketplace systems. The role requires extensive public-cloud experience, strong Go or systems-language expertise, and end-to-end technical leadership.

Responsibilities
- Lead the technical direction for sign-up, marketplace, billing, and payments journeys across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.
- Own architecture for correctness-critical billing, metering, and payment flows, including idempotency, reconciliation, and auditability.
- Drive multi-quarter product and technical roadmaps with product management, finance, and commercial stakeholders.
- Translate ambiguous product and commercial requirements into clear designs and executable workstreams.
- Adopt existing systems from other teams, assess and stabilize them, and plan their evolution.
- Anticipate and mitigate technical risk.
- Uphold high standards for reliability, security, and privacy of customer PII and payment data.
- Mentor the team, improve engineering practices, and champion operational excellence.
- Participate in the on-call escalation chain and improve operational health.
Requirements
- Significant experience designing and operating large-scale, reliable systems in public cloud environments.
- Experience leading large technical projects end-to-end, from design and planning through execution and production operations.
- Strong proficiency in Go or a comparable systems language, with willingness to ramp up on Go.
- Frontend familiarity sufficient to own customer-facing UIs with design support.
- Production experience using AI-assisted software development workflows such as Claude Code or Codex.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a globally distributed, async environment.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, finance, and customer-facing stakeholders.
Strong Plus
- Expertise in usage-based billing and metering, including Metronome or similar platforms.
- Experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure marketplace integrations for usage-based billing and public or private offers.
- Experience with payments or Stripe.
- Experience with identity and authentication.
- Experience building or operating SaaS billing and account platforms at scale.
Nice to Have
- React and TypeScript experience for customer-facing UIs.
- Experience modernizing inherited or legacy systems.
- Experience using Redpanda or other streaming platforms.
