About the role

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, development, and qualification of complex systems automating process technologies such as physical vapor deposition, vacuum material handling, laser micromachining, electrochemical processes, fluid handling and dispense, bonding and joining, precision pick-and-place robotics, conveyance systems, mechanisms, end effectors, robotic axes, and systems for a modular robotic manufacturing platform.
  • Lead and collaborate with cross-functional mechanical, software, electrical, process, and materials engineering teams; manage projects and risks and shape the technology development path.
  • Establish engineering excellence through concise documentation, analytical models, and strong engineering decisions that provide detailed understanding of machine performance.
  • Drive development through rapid learning loops using the in-house laboratory, fab, and machine shop.
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure systems are performant, efficient, operable, and reliable.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing complex, multiphysics precision mechanical systems.
  • Multiple successful product life cycles stewarded from conception through market launch.
  • Expertise across multiple disciplines, with the ability to learn across precision engineering, machine design, mechanisms, thermal systems, vacuum, fluids, optics, electromagnetics, sensors, and materials.
  • Proficiency in systems engineering principles and their application.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams through successful product development across multiple technical domains.
  • Exceptional command of engineering fundamentals, design principles, and detailed engineering definition.
  • Creativity and inventiveness, with the ability to take and manage technical risks and lead by influence.
  • Resourcefulness, flexibility, and adaptability, with a willingness to handle tasks of varying scope.
  • Strong hands-on experience in fabrication, machining, and prototyping, with an intuitive understanding of material behavior and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical ideas and documenting designs.
  • Proactive, self-driven approach with initiative and follow-through.
  • Minimum B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: $180,000–$230,000 USD.
  • Compensation also includes equity and benefits.
