Member of the Technical Staff, Internal Agent

Responsibilities

• Design and build V as the primary agentic interface for getting work done across Vercel, including answering questions, analyzing data, and executing complex, multi-system workflows.
• Build agent architecture that understands intent, plans work, selects appropriate skills and tools, recovers from failures, and completes long-running tasks reliably.
• Ship polished experiences across Slack, web, and other surfaces, combining natural-language interaction with rich, interactive interfaces.
• Develop evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure whether answers and actions are accurate, useful, efficient, and trustworthy.
• Establish primitives that enable teams across Vercel to contribute capabilities without creating fragmented agents or inconsistent user experiences.
• Help define how a company can be operated through an agent and translate lessons from building V into ideas and infrastructure for Vercel customers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript proficiency.
• Experience working across product surfaces and system boundaries, including conversational UI, interactive data experiences, APIs, queues, databases, permissions, and production infrastructure.
• Strong interest in AI interaction quality, including context selection, tool use, memory, latency, generated interfaces, uncertainty, progress communication, and asking for help.
• Openness and adaptability, with a track record of learning unfamiliar technologies, domains, or responsibilities quickly.

Nice to Have

• Experience using and building agent harnesses such as OpenClaw, Hermes, or Pi.

Compensation and Benefits

• San Francisco, CA base pay range: $208,000–$312,000.
