Leads the technical AI strategy and production application of LLMs, NLP, retrieval, agents, and multimodal systems for large-scale legal discovery. Requires 8+ years of software engineering experience, including significant ML/AI leadership and production LLM experience.

Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of Everlaw's technical AI strategy.
- Evaluate frontier models, open-source offerings, and evolving AI APIs, including participation in early-access programs and providing feedback on model and API design.
- Develop approaches for applying AI at trillion-token scale to complex litigation reasoning tasks and multimodal inputs.
- Guide engineers across the company in applying AI through design-document feedback, code reviews, technical talks, and study groups.
- Collaborate with software engineers, security engineers, data scientists, product leads, designers, and other cross-functional teams.
- Identify opportunities to apply advances in ML and AI to legal technology and influence engineering and product direction.
Requirements
- At least 6 years of experience in ML/AI and 8+ years of overall software engineering experience.
- Experience leading significant AI projects, including applying LLMs in production.
- Experience with NLP and text analysis.
- Programming skills in at least one scripting language, such as Python.
- Demonstrated ability to stay current with AI developments and apply them to engineering work.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and mentor others.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with retrieval-based language models or hybrid RAG approaches for large custom datasets.
- Experience designing knowledge storage and representation approaches.
- Familiarity with vector databases and graph databases.
- Experience with multimodal processing, including images, audio, or video.
- Experience building task-oriented agents, including supervision, backtracking, exception handling, tool use, or MCP.
- Experience with SaaS and distributed systems.
Compensation and Benefits
- Expected salary range: $228,000–$288,000.
