Senior Robotic Hardware Engineer

Leads hardware, embedded software, networking, and flight-test integration for autonomous aerial systems. Requires 5+ years in robotics, embedded systems, flight testing, or autonomous vehicles, with strong Linux, networking, scripting, electronics, and troubleshooting skills.

About the job

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end hardware and software integration for unmanned aerial systems, from benchtop prototyping through active flight testing.
  • Configure embedded Linux environments and deploy software stacks using Docker images, shell scripts, and Linux system tools across onboard computers and peripheral hardware.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle networks, payload interfaces, and sensor links using command-line tools, hardware diagnostics, multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Develop Python and C++ scripts for data reduction, log analysis, system validation, automation, test suites, and real-time subsystem verification.
  • Fabricate custom wiring harnesses, perform precision soldering, and define system-level architectures using block diagrams.
  • Configure IP routing, subnets, and local network interfaces connecting flight controllers, companion computers, radios, and ground control stations.
  • Lead integration efforts independently and serve as the technical link between software, GNC, and hardware teams.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in robotics integration, flight test engineering, embedded systems, or autonomous vehicles; aerial experience preferred.
  • Deep practical experience with the Linux command line, file management, system logging, local IP routing, subnets, and Docker deployments.
  • Hands-on experience with wiring, custom cable assembly, bench soldering, oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, C++, or shell scripting.
  • Direct experience with UART, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, and I2C protocols.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice to Have

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Experience with MAVLink, PX4, or ArduPilot.
  • Experience with Persistent Systems, Silvus, or similar tactical mesh radios.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and hands-on R/C flight experience.
  • Experience with defense technology platforms or flight ranges.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary range: $120,000–$165,000 USD annually.
  • Total compensation may include base salary, equity in the form of options or restricted stock units, health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k) with employer match, learning and wellness stipends, and paid time off.
  • Benefits may vary by employment jurisdiction and are subject to change.
