Director of Engineering - Platform Services
Leads engineering teams building core platform services like SSO/identity, access control, and e-signature for a multi-product B2B SaaS ecosystem. Requires 10+ years engineering experience including 5+ in leadership, deep IAM expertise, and proven platform ownership in high-availability environments.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Ownership
- Own the engineering strategy and roadmap for platform services including SSO/identity, access control, and e-signature.
- Define and drive a platform-first approach: build shared capabilities once and scale them across products and verticals.
- Partner with Product, Architecture, and Security to define long-term IAM, permissions, and access control strategy, including federation, MFA, and delegated/organizational access.
Delivery & Execution
- Lead multiple teams to deliver high-impact initiatives such as portal/SSO adoption, migration of FMS systems onto Access Control platform, and expansion of Storable eSign.
- Establish clear execution plans, milestones, and success metrics; manage risk and trade-offs.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to design integration patterns, migration plans, and rollout strategies.
Engineering Excellence & Operations
- Own operational health of platform services (availability, performance, incident response, SLAs).
- Drive secure-by-default engineering practices for identity, authentication, authorization, and sensitive workflows.
- Raise the bar on reliability, observability, and resilience, including on-call practices and post-incident learning.
- Partner with Security to evaluate and mitigate platform risks.
People Leadership
- Lead, develop, and retain engineering managers and senior ICs, including career growth and performance management.
- Build a healthy, inclusive team culture.
- Shape hiring plans and recruit talent in US and international locations.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as primary engineering counterpart for Product and PMO.
- Represent Platform in architecture reviews, quarterly planning, and portfolio discussions.
- Communicate status, risks, and decisions to executive stakeholders.
Requirements
Required Experience
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 5+ years in engineering leadership (managing managers and/or multiple teams).
- Proven track record owning platform or shared services in a multi-product B2B SaaS environment.
- Deep familiarity with authentication & identity: SSO, OAuth/OIDC/SAML, MFA, IdP integrations, session management.
- Authorization & permissions: role- and attribute-based access control, delegated/organizational access models.
- Operating high-availability services in production (99.9%+ uptime, incident management, observability).
- Success leading complex, cross-team migrations or platformization efforts.
- Strong technical background in modern cloud architectures (microservices, APIs, event-driven systems) and secure coding practices.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in payments-adjacent, compliance-heavy, or security-sensitive domains (PCI, SOC2).
- Background with multi-tenant enterprise customers, enterprise SSO, delegated administration.
- Leading distributed teams (onshore/offshore).
- Prior experience in property management, fintech, or similar vertical SaaS.
