Resident Structural Engineer, Modular R&D
Engineers and supports structural systems for modular data center products directly on a Phoenix manufacturing line, taking designs from released drawings through production and feeding manufacturing issues back into revisions. The role requires hands-on heavy fabrication or physical product experience and real-time nonconformance dispositioning.
About the job
Responsibilities
- Own the structural systems of the modular product, including frames, enclosures, and lifting and transport structures, from released drawings through rate production.
- Work live on the Phoenix manufacturing line, identifying fit-up and weld issues and dispositioning them at the station where they occur.
- Provide real-time structural support to the factory and answer RFIs from the production floor.
- Engineer fixes into subsequent drawing revisions.
- Run first-article reviews and in-person fit checks as units leave the line.
- Document findings precisely enough to drive drawing changes.
- Feed manufacturing lessons back into drawings, tolerances, and the bill of materials (BOM).
- Maintain configuration control while iterating at manufacturing speed.
Requirements
- Experience engineering structures for complex physical products, modular construction, or heavy fabrication.
- Hands-on experience working on a shop floor or fabrication line.
- Experience dispositioning nonconformances, including use-as-is, rework, or stop-work decisions.
- Ability to produce clear drawings that fabricators can build accurately.
- Experience supporting production launches and staying involved through early production units.
- Ability to iterate quickly while maintaining configuration control.
Nice-to-haves
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Steel and sheet metal design experience.
- Familiarity with AISC and AWS structural detailing standards.
- Weld inspection or nondestructive examination (NDE) experience.
- Design-for-manufacturing (DFM) instincts.
Compensation
- Salary range: $164,000–$206,000 per year.
