Key Responsibilities
- Own core areas of the month-end close (GL, reconciliations, accruals, reporting) while actively redesigning how the close is executed
- Identify manual, fragmented workflows and replace them with automated, system-driven processes
- Build automation across accounting operations (recs, journal entries, data ingestion, reporting) with the goal of reducing human intervention
- Take full ownership of improving close speed, reliability, and scalability, while continuously pushing toward a low-touch close
- Design and implement standardized workflows that eliminate inconsistency and reduce dependency on tribal knowledge
- Own and optimize financial systems (ERP and adjacent tools) as a core part of the role, not just usage, but how they are structured and leveraged
- Ensure financial data is clean, structured, and flows correctly across systems, proactively fixing root causes
- Rethink and evolve core structures (chart of accounts, mappings, reporting logic) to support scale from first principles
- Actively seek out inefficiencies and build solutions end-to-end, rather than working around broken processes
- Balance speed and automation with strong controls, ensuring systems are both efficient and audit-ready
Requirements
- Background in accounting (e.g., public accounting, Big 4, or in-house at a high-growth company), with strong understanding of core processes (close, GL, reconciliations, reporting, controls)
- Strong inclination toward automation and efficiency; you naturally look for ways to eliminate manual work and reduce complexity
- Experience working with ERP systems and accounting tools, with an understanding of how systems should be structured to scale
- Comfortable working with large datasets, data flows, and identifying root causes of discrepancies
- High attention to detail with strong ownership over accuracy and outcomes
- Bias toward action and ability to independently drive improvements end-to-end
- Strong problem-solving skills and comfort operating in ambiguity
- Ability to balance speed, automation, and strong controls in a high-growth environment
- Excited to help build a modern, system-driven accounting function from the ground up
- Willingness to work in person at our office 4-5 days a week
